Matthew McConaughey took a pay cut to appear in 'The Lincoln Lawyer' because he was tired of starring in romantic comedies.
The 41-year-old actor - known for his roles in"The Wedding Planner'"and 'Failure To Launch"- was"really excited"about the script for the legal drama from the moment he saw it.
He added:"The role came around to me. But I will say I made less money than a romantic comedy. So that is a measure of saying that not many movies like this can get made.
"This was something I was really excited about doing and something I didn't feel like I had done before."
He also also admitted he opted for the film because he"didn't feel"like doing another rom-com - but hasn't ruled out a return to the genre in future.
He explained:"I was reading some other scripts and some of them were rom-coms and I just didn't feel like doing that right now. I may do them again. I just didn't feel like doing them right now.
"I loved the consequences that were in this movie. I love the traps the guy was in. I wanted to be the guy getting out of those traps."

Bradley Cooper and Renee Zellweger have reportedly split up
The actor and actress have parted ways after less than two years together, according to UsMagazine.com.
After being photographed dining together in New York in July 2009, the duo were spotted kissing in Spain in early August but have been secretive about their relationship ever since.
However, earlier this week Bradley put the spotlight on his rumoured partner during his appearance on US show 'Inside the Actors Studio', pointing her out in the crowd before she stood up to a round of applause.
Now multiple sources have said that the 'Limitless' star and the 41-year-old actress are no longer a couple but neither of their representatives would comment.
Both stars have been married in the past, with Renee's union to singer Kenny Chesney and Bradley's to actress Jennifer Esposito both ending in less than six months.
Bradley, 36, recently admitted he realised his marriage"wasn't right"soon after tying the knot.
He said:"It was just something that happened. The good thing is, we both realised it . Sometimes you just realise it.
"It just wasn't right. It's interesting... things happen!"
However, the hunk wouldn't say that the experience put him off matrimony for good.
He said:"Making any declarative statement like that is a joke."

Jessica Simpson is being lined up for the US version of 'The X Factor'.
The singer, actress and reality TV star is reportedly at the top of Simon Cowell's list to take on one of the coveted judge-and-mentor roles on the show when it launches later this year.
A source told People:"There {are} loads of conversations happening at the moment. No one has been offered a judging role yet as new names keep coming forward who want the role, but there are some frontrunners and it's fair to say Jessica is one of them. She's very keen.
"She knows what she is talking about {and} is talented and likable. But Simon's not in a rush to decide. The judges have to mentor on 'The X Factor' - it's more than just turning up for a few hours a week to appear on TV."
Jessica is not the only person in the frame for a role, it was revealed yesterday that record executive Tony Mottola - ex-husband of Mariah Carey and former boss of Sony Music - is also being considered.
An insider said:"Simon and Tommy have known each other for years since their days at Sony and Simon has wanted to get Tommy on board one of his shows for a long time.
"They get on extremely well and this could be the moment where they finally get on screen together. Tommy's from the Bronx in New York, he's tough talking, doesn't pull any punches and will make great TV."
Other people mentioned as possibilities include Nicole Scherzinger, Mariah Carey, and Cheryl Cole.
